How This Long Beach Career Fair Works

This is not a wander-the-aisles afternoon. The organizer builds the day around scheduled meetings with recruiters, and it asks job seekers to register through its listing and email a resume to Fasttrack@citycareerfair.com ahead of time so it can line up who you sit down with.

The event is a fixture, not a pop-up. The organizer billed last year's Long Beach edition as its 26th annual Community Employment Day, and the same format has been running in other California cities this fall, including a September 30 edition in downtown Oakland.

The organizer's Long Beach page showcases a wide spread of employers it has worked with, including Southern California Edison, MemorialCare, T-Mobile, UCLA, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the Los Angeles County Probation Department, California Water Service and CTBC Bank. Getting to The Grand

The Grand sits on East Willow Street a few minutes from the Lakewood Boulevard interchange, which makes it an easy drive from Bixby Knolls, Signal Hill, Los Altos or North Long Beach, and close to the 405 for anyone coming in from Lakewood or Carson.

Bring plenty of printed resumes, a photo ID and a thirty-second answer to "what are you looking for." Dress for an interview.
